The Vietnam War was ending in 1975, when Mai Thi Kim sent her young Amerasian daughter to America in a controversial evacuation program called "Operation Babylift." Adopted and renamed Heidi, the child concealed her Asian past and became "101%" American. Years later, Heidi visited Danang for a tense reunion with her Vietnamese family. DAUGHTER FROM DANANG was nominated for best documentary feature at the 2003 Academy Awards.
